Orra Key: Free Key Detection Plugin With MIDI Chord Export
Orra Audio has released Orra Key, a versatile free key detection plugin for macOS and Windows that identifies musical scales and exports chord progressions. The utility analyzes incoming audio within seconds without altering or coloring your original source signal. You can claim the plugin at zero cost directly from the Orra Audio website using their pay-what-you-can checkout.
Audio Analysis and Key Detection
Orra Key listens to any sample, vocal phrase, or loop on your audio track and presents the detected scale alongside its relative key. In addition to standard musical notation, the interface displays Camelot (8A/8B) and Open Key (1d/1m) DJ notation together with a calibrated match hit rate. A dedicated tuning meter also reveals how far off incoming audio sits from standard A440 concert pitch in cents, making it simple to spot detuned loops before arranging.
MIDI Chord Tiles and Pitch Transposition
Beyond basic pitch detection, Orra Key provides functional tools to accelerate your composition workflow:
- Eleven Chord Tiles: Preview the seven diatonic chords belonging to the detected key, as well as four borrowed modal chords for expanded harmony.
- Drag-and-Drop MIDI: Drag any chord tile directly from the GUI into your DAW timeline or virtual instrument track as standard MIDI data.
- Transpose Strip: See the exact number of semitones required to pitch-shift your sample so it sits perfectly in your project key.
Orra Key operates as a pay-what-you-can utility supporting 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats across both Windows and macOS systems. A single registered license file activates up to three individual machines for seamless studio use.
